OP-G-7 Building and Construction Safety

The Building Code Administration section within the Department of Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for ensuring that construction operations on University facilities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws of the State of Florida,
Florida law and regulations require that all new buildings constructed and modifications to existing buildings be reviewed and inspected for compliance with adopted building codes and standards. The policy requires all University entities conducting building construction, repair, or modifications on University-owned property to submit construction plans and specifications to the University's Building Code Administration section and the State Fire Marshal for review. No construction may begin until a Building Permit has been issued.
The Building Code Administration (BCA) section will provide for the review of plans and specifications for compliance with adopted codes and standards. A building permit will be issued to the applicant upon satisfactory completion of the permit application process and receipt and review of all necessary documents. Throughout the construction process BCA staff will conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the construction documents and minimum code requirements. Upon completion of construction activities the Building Official shall issue a Certificate of Completion / Occupancy stating the construction is complete, constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications, and meets the minimum code requirements at the time of issuance of the building permit.B.
